In the most Unlikely Places

Despite very mixed feelings about Jeff Bezos "Man of the Year" nomination, the best redux of the year 2000 was actually found in Time Magazine. Roger Rosenblatt's Letter to 2100 is at once, apologetic proud and humble about where we as a civilization are. He didn't get maudlin, and he didn't use brand names.

Odds and Ends

We'd like to note that in spite of being responsible for making a press fiasco out of Cool Site of the Year last year, we've not only been invited back (at $100+ a ticket) to this year's ceremonies, we've been offered an "exciting opportunity" to be a sponsor. That would only cost us $50,000 (silver) or $75,000 (platinum). Aren't they sweet? Thanks CSOTD for your forgiveness, not to mention the chance to better ourselves through giving you heaps of cash.

(And of course we now understand why noncommercial sites don't ever get Cool Site of the Day anymore.) We're not bitter, but we do think after getting what was a third rate social event first rate press coverage, they should be festooning the place with Smug banners this year. The most fun thing about that party was the aftermath, and this year they promise "tighter security" and hopefully less ass grabbing.

Wish List:

Things we'd like to see in the new year:

  • More pets.com ads.
  • Less talk about the "Dot Com Revolution"
  • More Home movies on the internet (not the naked kind, well, okay, maybe some of those but mostly the regular home made stuff)
  • More rock, less talk
  • Naptime made a legal requirement
  • More swag sent to the office.
  • Aging process, reversed
  • Book deals for entire staff (alternately I think Brian would take a TV show and Joe would like his band signed or a book deal and Todd basically needs a three picture deal or he's walking).
  • 47 additional minutes per day

Write in on the Bathroom Mirror II

Just a reminder to register to Blab and get the conversation flowing, our new message boards make it oh so much easier to talk back to Smug and let us know what you think each and every day.
